For successful decoupage results, proper surface preparation is essential. This includes thoroughly cleaning the surface and, when needed, applying an appropriate primer to ensure optimal adhesion. Selecting the right medium is equally important—consider both the material you’re working on and how the finished piece will be used. For projects that require added durability, a stronger decoupage medium or sealer is recommended over standard craft glue.

It is not advisable to use a heat gun to accelerate the drying process, as this can cause bubbling, wrinkling, or uneven adhesion. Allowing your project to air dry naturally will typically yield the best and most consistent results.

When it comes to sealing, be sure the initial decoupage layer is completely dry before applying any topcoat. This helps prevent lifting, cloudiness, or damage to the design, ensuring a smooth and long-lasting finish.
